My child was adopted 30 years ago could I find him/her?
At the current time all legal rights to accesses to information about a person who has been adopted is with the adopted person. However, in September 2005 birth relatives who wish to trace someone who has been adopted prior to 1976 will have the right to Intermediary Services. Intermediary Services are undertaken by Approved Support Agencies who work on behalf of the birth relative to search for the adopted person they want to trace. No identifying information can be passed on to the birth relative until the adopted person has been traced and given their permission for this to happen.
