NEPAS has been the ultimate resource for all adopted people - birth parents, brothers, sisters and extended natural family members - wishing contact with one another for many years. Our tracing services, adoption registers, support services and counselling provides information, support and advice on all post adoption issues, search and reunions. We operate a register which may link people separated by adoption who wish to be put in touch with each other and Intermediary services to facilitate reunions .

Created in 1998 by two childcare workers with a personal interest in the field of post adoption support and working in their spare time they researched and consulted providers of post adoption support in other regions which lead them to set up a telephone help line. Within two days after opening this service the calls began to flood in
It quickly became apparent that there was a substantial demand for NEPAS services and that in order to meet these demands the organisations Trustees and Volunteers would need to formulate long term plans for the future development of the organisation.

In March 1999 NEPAS was awarded Charitable Status and added to the charity Register. It was decided then that to ensure the organisation kept focused that two thirds of the management committee would personally have been touched by the adoption experience.
Our range of post adoption services has grown; including enabling people to undertake searches, reunions and post section 51 counselling. We have counselled people whose wish to have a reunion with a birth relative has not been possible. We have provided group work that supports the adopted community, both in formal and informal settings, engaged with contemporary birth parents whose children have been adopted to help them overcome a range of issues both social and psychological. Advised and counselled birth parents whose children were adopted many decades ago and provided independent support to prospective adoptive families, helping families through the Independent Review process
August 2003 we celebrated our 5 th Anniversary and a chance to reflect on the work we had done over the years. This included the introduction of an out of hours telephone help line, Saturday morning surgeries, choices courses, new support groups, research, narratives a website, too much to list but the most important staggering and rewarding achievement was the number of individuals helped through our services was in access of 26,165 and that was not taking into account their family members or close relatives.

From it’s embryonic stage in 1998 we not only offer support on a regional basis to the adoption community but world wide through our on-line services and will continue to be a truly client led organisation. In line with current and changing Government legislation we intend to become a Regulated Adoption Support Agency lending greater credibility and enhancing long term sustainability for future services.
