Over the years we have worked with many birth relatives. We found by offering them the chance to talk about their emotions and frustrations can help in coming to terms with the separation and loss of their child. Our work with adoptive families has shown that most parents need support when their adopted child shows a greater interest in knowing more about their birth family. We provide the opportunity to take part in group or individual support sessions to discuss emotions and ways to support your adopted child if they want to trace a birth parent or relative. Difficult as it may be at times, your support and understanding will be very important to them, therefore it is equally important that you have access to support from someone with experience. We can provide the opportunity to talk to others in similar situations or to adoptive parents who have already supported their adopted child through a reunion. This can help reassure you that their wish to search is more likely to be because they want to know more about themselves and not because they are unhappy with the life you provided for them.
